Parents Demand Justice for Injured Students in Oaxaca

The father of two of the eight students burned in a summer camp to celebrate Children's Day at the private school "Francoise Dolto", Luis Armando Vélez Flores, denounced the lack of attention from the school administrators and teachers following the incident. His daughters Kinich, 4 years old, and Kelly, 8 years old, suffered burns due to the alleged negligence of a teacher attempting to light a fire with a flammable liquid.

Kinich is receiving medical attention at the Children's Hospital of Oaxaca, but Vélez Flores insists it is urgent to transfer his daughters and the most severely affected children to specialized institutions for the care of burn victims. Kinich, the youngest, is the most affected, with second-degree burns on almost her entire body.

"My 8-year-old daughter was also injured, and she explained to me how the accident happened, as apparently a teacher, while trying to light the fire to cook some marshmallows, used a liquid, which is unknown, and caused the burns to our children," said the father.

Vélez Flores laments the irresponsibility and negligence of the school administrators, who promised to take charge of the medical expenses but have lost communication with the families since April 30. The parents of the affected children filed a complaint with the Prosecutor's Office.

The State Institute of Public Education of Oaxaca (IEEPO) has suspended activities at the private school Francoise Dolto, located in downtown Oaxaca, following this tragic incident.
